Lecture “The Mobility and Migrations of Banat Romanians: Dynamics of an Ethnic Community”
On Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Annemarie Sorescu-Marinković, Principal Research Fellow of the Institute for Balkan Studies SASA, and Mircea Maran, Professor at the Preschool Teacher Training and Medical College in Vršac, held a lecture titled “The Mobility and Migrations of Banat Romanians: Dynamics of an Ethnic Community” at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, upon invitation of the Committee for the Study of National Minorities and Human Rights of SASA. The lecture focused on two parallel and complementary phenomena of mobility that are crucial for understanding the current status of the Romanians in Vojvodina: on the one hand, the migration of Banat Romanians to the countries of Western Europe and to the American continent during the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, and on the other hand, to the continuous influx of population from the territory of nowadays Romania. Academician Tibor Varady, president of the Committee for the Study of National Minorities and Human Rights SASA, hosted this event.
