Dr. Dubravka Preradović, a research associate at the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts is the author of the exhibition Vladimir R. Petković : A Founding Figure of the Institutional and Academic Realm which opened on September
24th at the Gallery of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.
The Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts has dedicated 2024 to Vladimir R. Petković (1874-1956), an art historian and archaeologist, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of his birth. For nearly five decades – from 1905, when, immediately after his return from schooling in Germany, he became employed at the National Museum, up until 1954, when, as an octogenarian, he resigned from his position of the director of the Institute of Archaeology of the Serbian Academy of Sciences – Vladimir R. Petković had been working unremittingly on laying firm foundations of cultural, educational and scientific institutions, foundations built upon high professional principles, and he conducted systematic, science-based research primarily in medieval art. His life's work and rich scientific legacy are presented in the exhibition, which will be open until December 8th.
The exhibition is accompanied by a publication with a series of scholarly papers highlighting the most significant aspects of Petković's scientific and professional career, edited by Dr. Dubravka Preradović.
