Conference “Banat Bulgarians – Cultural Heritage, Language, and Literature” in Sofia
Anđela Redžić, research assistant of the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts, took part in the conference “Banat Bulgarians – Cultural Heritage, Language, and Literature”, organized by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in Sofia on January 26th, 2024. Together with Dalibor Sokolović, associate professor at the Department of Slavic Studies of the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade, Anđela Redžić presented the paper titled “Domains of Banat Bulgarian Language Use in Serbia”, based on field research within the project “Vulnerable Languages and Linguistic Varieties in Serbia – VLingS”, supported by the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia through the program IDEAS.
Anđela Redžić and Dalibor Sokolović highlighted that Banat Bulgarian is primarily used in the private domain, for conversations among family members, while in the public domain it is mostly suppressed not only by the Serbian language, but also by Slovak and Hungarian.
