“Semiotic Landscapes of Multilingual Border Regions” – workshop with lectures, Friedrich Schiller University Jena
Between September 5th and 7th, 2022, the Friedrich Schiller University Jena was the host of the workshop with lectures “Semiotic Landscapes of Multilingual Border Regions”. The workshop was organized as part of the bilateral Serbian-German project with the same title, financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), within the program of scientific and technological cooperation between the Republic of Serbia and the Federal Republic of Germany, for the period 2022-2023. The partner institutions are the Institute for Balkan Studies of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Institute for Romance Studies of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena.
Five researchers of the Institute for Balkan Studies involved in the project took part in the workshop and delivered lectures, as follows: Annemarie Sorescu-Marinković, project leader: “Reading and re-reading the linguistic landscape of the cemetery: the semiotic turn”, Svetlana Ćirković: “Romani in Serbia: (in)visibility of a minority language”, Mirjana Mirić: “Sociolinguistic questionnaires as a complementary method in exploring the linguistic landscape”, Rastko Lompar and Anđelija Miladinović: “Minority schools in Yugoslav Banat: Between integration and assimilation”.
